This week I’ve been playing with the Kat Von D lock it tattoo foundation. Disclaimer: though Kat has been making negative headlines, this review is strictly based on my thoughts of the PRODUCT and not the company nor Kat herself. I will also disclose that these products were sent to me and I did not purchase them on my own- however my reviews are always true and unbiased.
What is it?
It is a high-pigment, matte foundation with flexible full coverage. Kat created this foundation to provide exceptional full coverage with a beautiful finish. The powerful formula was developed to match a broad range of skin tones with bold coverage that can effectively cover up tattoos.
How Does It Work?
A little goes a long way: one pea-size droplet gives you medium-to-full coverage. It is buildable to full coverage. A combination of elastomers and esters provide 24-hour wear that is transfer resistant and hydrating. The silicone elastomers provide flexible, full coverage that aborbs oil throughout the day, while the esters provide a hydrating effect, for a matte, soft finish.
Is It Worth It?
I immediately noticed a difference in my skin’s texture compared to other foundations. Even my co-workers noticed. Many of them approached me and asked if I’m wearing a new foundation because my skin looks so airbrushed. This foundation does not crack throughout the day which is very important to me. I work in customer service and I’m constantly smiling all day, after a few hours I’d notice cracks in my foundation where my smile lines are, however this one does not do that. My only concern is that the product is thick and fast-drying; so if you don’t beat your face fast enough it’s harder to blend out. It also smells a little like paint but that’s a minor issue. My foundations have to be able to stand up to 15 hours of wear, between work and nighttime and this one definitely stands up to the test. No retouching required.
In the end I’d say it’s a great foundation but it’s also comparable to the Huda Beauty foundation which also has similar properties.
