I was in New York and we happened to stumble into a Sephora accidentally, when I came across what looked like the creepiest face mask I have ever seen.
You’ve probably seen them all over instagram as well. The dr Jart+ shake and shot face masks.
They are designed to look like a milkshake but the lid is this creepy little rubber-looking face.
Getting past the design aspect, the product itself was an intriguing concept to me so I decided to try one for myself. It seemed like a reasonable price too ($10 USD).

The magical cream-to-sheet formula penetrates the skin more deeply than your average sheet mask to deliver nutrient-rich ingredients quickly, and efficiently. The “rubber mask” is a technique found in Korean spas. Not only is it effective, but it’s fun to use!
There are four different types of the Shake and Shot masks: soothing, brightening, hydro, and firming. I tried the Rubber Hydro Mask first, which claims to “revitalize and moisturize the complexion. [It] contains a cocktail of Vitamin b5 and expert moist complex, rich in amino acids, to help strengthen skin’s moisture barrier.” (Sephora Canada). Vitamin B5 is important for moisture maintains skin retention. Baobab Tree Leaf Extract is rich in vitamins to provide antioxidant protection. Expert Moist (I hate this word) Complex is rich in amino acids which also enhances moisture retention and strengthen the skin’s barrier.
This product makes you feel like a scientist in the lab (or a bachelors student in a chem lab) but there are no calculations involved in this experiment. Dr Jart+ and team have already done all the research, calculations, experimenting and staying up late to finish the report (major University flashback 😔). All you have to do is shake it up and enjoy!
Mix the two packets in the cup and shake it up, then use the spatula to apply an even layer to the face. Leave on for 10-15 minutes/ wait for it to solidify. Then easily peel off.
Because of the creepy packaging and relatively cheap price I was very skeptical about this product. However with one use I noticed a dramatic difference in the appearance of my skin. I was actually hydrated and glowing!
