Is Huda Beauty Worth The Hype?

Huda Kattan is the beauty guru behind the brand Huda Beauty. Working in finance in Dubai she knew something was missing, so she moved across the world to study makeup in Los Angeles with Joe Blasco. She then started her beauty blog in 2010 which quickly cultivated into one of the biggest online beauty communities. She started her brand by launching Huda Beauty lashes and has now expanded to foundations, highlighters, eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks.

I knew I loved her lashes (they’re a beauty essential to me), but I wasn’t sure how to feel about her makeup products, especially since they were kind of pricey, and I hadn’t heard great things about her first palette. I decided it’s better to try it out for myself rather than base my opinions on other people’s thoughts. Is it worth the hype? – Yes, it absolutely is.

Faux Filter Foundation

It’s a full coverage foundation that visibly smooths and evens texture for a flawless airbrushed finish. When Huda was creating this foundation she took into account skin tone AS WELL AS undertone. Typically full coverage foundations can be drying and crack during the day (especially to me because my skin is always dry) but this formula is enriched with argan oil and centella asiatica which are both hydrating components.  It also has a slight perfume scent, but it isn’t too strong. However, I know a lot of people are bothered by that. This is the first “full coverage” foundation I’ve used that is truly full coverage and  doesn’t require multiple pumps of products. You only need a dime size of product, which made it worth the price because it lasts a long time. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone that is uncomfortable with heavy foundation. This isn’t a lightweight full coverage foundation- you can definitely feel it on your skin, but the finish and coverage is totally worth it to me. Also, not to mention how lit your insta feed will look with this foundation on because it photographs so beautifully in any type of light without needing to be touched up, proving Huda really is the queen of Instagram. This foundation has become my holy grail and I won’t be switching foundations anytime soon (as long as sephora restocks it asap please!).

Desert Dusk Palette

There are 18 shades in the palette; one glitter, 4 mattes, 6 shimmers and 3 duo chromes. The pigmentation is much better than her first palette. All the colours compliment any eye colour, but really dazzle on brown eyes. There’s just something magical about sunset colours on brown eyes, so can we please get more brown girl representation in the beauty community?? I love her smaller obsessions palettes as well. It’s the same formula and pigmentation, but more travel friendly. It’s so easy to take your look from day to night with one palette and an endless range of possible looks.

Liquid Lipstick

Do people even wear lipstick anymore?? Isn’t it always liquid lipstick now? At least for me it is. I get asked daily what lipstick I’m wearing because I never reapply during the day (even after copious cups of coffee) and the pigmentation remains the same. For the longest time I only wore Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks, but Huda beauty has also become a classic for me. It’s highly pigmented, non-drying, but most importantly; it’s smudge proof and kiss proof! That’s such a big quality for me. I hate reapplying lipstick during the day, or drinking coffee and then have lipstick smeared all over my face because it moved. The only problem I have with this lipstick is that it looks very different on every skin tone, so you won’t actually get the colour that the bottle shows. It’s best to swatch it before buying it. Other than that I’m a huge fan.
